Artist Spotlight: Liz Baxmeyer (USA)

As an interdisciplinary artist, my practice often stems from crafting intentional, multi-sensory experiences, through which to create new work in various forms. I take hikes in natural locations, especially those most finite or susceptible to climate change, where I record sound, interact with entities in the environment, sketch, take pictures, write, and develop ideas for research or workshop prompts. I center myself, and my work, around the idea of affiliation as a process for confronting climate disruption and wider disassociation with the natural world. Currently, a main focus is creating immersive audio experiences that encourage environmental embodiment, particularly for healthcare settings, where there is both a lack of connection with the outside world, and often, also, with the self.
